Welcome back to another edition of This Week in Indie Games! Another week, another set of awesome indie games including a game I’ve been excited for before it was even officially announced! . We’ve got high school hijinks, skating gators and much much more. Let’s get started shall we?

Sea of Stars (August 29)

Finally, it feels like it has been such a long wait! Sea of Stars is the latest title from Sabotage Studios, responsible for the brilliant The Messenger. Inspired by the classic 16/32 bit RPGs of the 90s, Sea of Stars is lining up to be a modern day classic in the genre, and I am so excited to both dive into its story and share my own thoughts on it as soon as I can!

The combat looks of particular interest, with an interactive element requiring button pressing within turn-based combat akin to Mario’s RPG adventures, and a strategic ‘locks’ system offering players more control in how they advance during enemy encounters. It has a gorgeous visual style, with dynamic lighting adding a well-shaded cherry on top, I just need to play it now!

Sea of Stars arrives on August 29, available on PS+ and Xbox Game Pass, as well as Steam and Nintendo Switch.

Goodbye Volcano High (August 29)

Goodbye Volcano High has had a series of delays that saw an initial release date in 2021 slip all the way through to August 2023, but at last the end is in sight. Taking place in the final year of high school, Goodbye Volcano High is a coming of age story packed with love, adventure, and oddly enough, the end of the world!

Goodbye Volcano High is a story-driven, choice-based cinematic adventure game about personal growth, acceptance, and the power of community. What will you do at the end of an era, and the world? It looks pretty groovy, and will be a hit with fans of titles such as Life is Strange who appreciate a good narrative that tugs on the heartstrings.

Goodbye Volcano High is available on Playstation platforms and Steam, August 29.

Great Houses of Calderia (August 30)

A delectable looking treat for grand strategy fans, Great Houses of Calderia tasks you with rising up the ranks of the medieval kingdom of Calderia. Like any good tale about great kingdoms and conflict, there will be plenty of family drama, power to seize, and schemes to conduct! Initially launching in Early Access, Great Houses of Calderia is already packed with plenty of great strategy content for fans to dive straight in to, like any good leader, you’ll need to master both diplomatic decisions and lead your armies to glorious victory in battle.

You’ll also need to be keeping up with the family too, who all have their own desires too, and appointing them to the wrong roles may no doubt cause some family friction. Life is never simple in Calderia, and you’ll need all your leadership skills in order to succeed.

Great Houses of Calderia arrives on Steam Early Access August 30.

Skator Gator 3D (August 31)

What do you get when you mix Alligator’s, skateboards and mayors determined to pollute your swamp? Skator Gator 3D! Lane-based platforming is on the menu here, with a sprinkling of 3D platforming along the way with plenty of collectibles to find. Skator Gator 3D is shaping up to be a super pleasant pallet cleanser amongst a busy schedule and the Next Fest demo was rather delightful.

Skator Gator 3D launches on Steam, August 31.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge – Dimension Shellshock (August 31)

Shredder’s Revenge launched last year to mass acclaim, and the beat ’em up featuring the famous Turts’ is back with a DLC expansion packed with new modes to explore and villains to defeat! Dimension Shellshock features the ninja turtles taking on Shredder once again as he attempts to conquer the multiverse! Featuring the same super satisfying beat ’em up action of the core game, new fighters Usagi and Karai spice things up with new techniques to master and make use of.

The new survival mode lets players battle across distinct dimensions and collect crystals. Spending enough crystals upon death unlocks upgrades such as a new life, power bars, Radical Mode, and extra hit points. It looks like a interesting sidemode and will give fans of the core experience a fun way to invest more time into the game.

The Dimension Shellshock DLC arrives across all platforms on August 31.

Tiny Witch (September 1)

Our last game of the week is the adorable Tiny Witch. As a witch left in charge of a magic store your job is to create minions so that your dungeon master clients will leave the store satisfied with their purchases. Activate your spells, unlock new recipes, and prepare the best minions in time to avoid upsetting your customers.

Purchase new resources, pounder, and more to improve your store! There are different stages, such as a wrapping stage where you can buy decorations, pets, and add new work tables. Operate your minion-crafting store throughout the days and nights in a forest, a cave, and a desert – this big world is your tiny witch’s oyster.

Tiny Witch launches on Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox and Playstation platforms on September 1.

And that’s another week in indie games! I hope one of these great looking games has taken your fancy. We all need to do our bit to support independent gaming, and the indie enclave is my way of doing just that. For more indie content, why not check out last week’s releases
